Nagpur – Largest City of Central India

Nagpur, also known by the name “Orange City” was founded by the Gonds. Later on it came under the royal Bhonsale dynasty, becoming a part of the Maratha Empire.

Nagpur is famous for its oranges and for having the coldest climate in the whole of Maharashtra. It is listed as the thirteenth most populous city of India.

Nagpur forms the exact geographical center of the country with the Zero Mile marker. The city connects a number of tiger reserves all over India to the world; giving it a nickname of the “Tiger Capital of India.”

The first textile mill ever; was started by the Tata group in this city. In the year 2002; this prospering city completed its 300 years of creation.

Visiting for the first time?

Nagpur is said to have a tropical wet and dry climatic conditions. You may not like to visit this city in the month of May as the temperature soars above 45 degree Celsius.

During the winters; the temperature drops down below 10 degree Celsius; making it the ideal time for holidaying. Nagpur is connected to some of the major cities via railways.

Nagpur is known for its traditional food, it’s spicy in taste. Some of the special ingredients used in the gravies are black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, grey cardamom, bay leaves, dry coriander and poppy seeds.

The Saoji cuisine is the most distinctive in this region. There is a string of Saoji bhojanalays for the eager crowd. Non Vegetarian food is also available.

Nagpur is surrounded by some famous National Parks; a treat to the little kids and the animal lovers. Ambazari Garden is a major attraction. Then there is the Sitabuldi Fort for the ones having a penchant for historical monuments.

Deekshabhoomi provides for a sacred ambience; it’s a Buddhist monument. Visitors can also feast their eyes upon the beautiful Islamic architecture; a mosque named after Hadhrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti – Masjeed Ghareeb Nawaz.

It is said to have a dome which is similar to the Shrine of Khwaja Gharib Nawaz.
