Spiritual City – Nashik

Nashik has an assignation with India’s sacred past and thus attracts the pilgrims along with the ones who are in search of spiritual enlightenment. It is a bustling township with a blend of the ancient and the modern, located at the banks of the Godavari River.

Nashik is known for its pleasant weather, picturesque setting and the lush greens. The city is a home to magnificent temples and numerous forts.

The famous pilgrimage center of Shirdi – Sai Baba is also quite nearby. A congregation of ardent devotees offering prayers is a common sight every year.

The famous ‘Kumbh Mela’ is also held here; in a rotation of every twelve years with cities like Ujjain, Allahabad and Haridwar. Nashik has always been a hotbed of commerce and trade.

The Security Printing Press of the government is located in this city. The country’s currency gets printed here.

Nashik is also well known for its fruits and vegetable yield and boasts of being the largest producer house of the grapes and onions. It is the third largest district of Maharashtra.

Time to go visiting –

Ramakund, a holy tank and Muktidham Temple are attraction spots for the religious minded. Coin Museum is for the ardent Numismatics and the ones interested in history.

The museum is said to have an admirable collection of well-documented history of Indian currencies. Then there is the Deolali Camp; one of the oldest military centres of the country.

The banks of the Godavari River are an abode of Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman. These temples are amidst serene beauty. Pandavleni Caves is a group of twenty-four Hinayana Buddhist Caves.

The structure dates back to 1st century BC and 2nd century AD. It is said to have beautiful sculptures. Saptashrungi is one more place to visit for the pilgrims. It is situated on a hill top.

Kalaram Temple and the Anjaneri Hills are also major attractions.
